Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA)

Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is a primary tool for ensuring that environmental, including health, considerations are taken into account in the development of plans and programmes. SEA promotes sustainable development by mainstreaming the environment into economic and social development in order to support more environmentally informed strategic decision-making process.

The Ecoline EA Centre has been engaged in providing SEA consulting services for more than 10 years.

The Ecoline EA Centre is currently engaged in implementing the SEA capacity-building element of the EaP Green Programme (UNECE) in its six beneficiary countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.

Under the auspice of this programme we participate in delivering:

  • National and sub-national level trainings on SEA to ministerial officials, environmental and health experts, and other potential SEA stakeholders;
  • Development of national guidance documents and recommendations on practical application or procedure of SEA;
  • experience-sharing events and seminars on SEA; and
  • Pilot SEA projects in selected EaP Green countries, such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine (planned for 2016).
